WHY WORSHIP FIRST?

For several years I believed and taught that missions is the most important activity of the Church. Then one day I picked up a book and read that "Missions is not the most important activity of the Church. Worship is." Immediately I understood, so I began right away with making worship my priority, which is where I am today. I often spend many hours telling God how wonderful He is, and I enjoy it immensely. Now I believe that the most important thing that I am to share with others is this truth; Worshiping God should be the priority activity of every Christian's life.

I am constantly finding more and more scripture verses that re-enforce the fact that our Father in Heaven wants us to worship Him first, before we do anything else. So be prepared to hear that phrase often on this site, because it is the most important thing that we have to share with you.

For instance, take a look at John 4, where Jesus talked with a woman at a well near the city of Sycar in Samaria. At first, the woman was surprised that Jesus started a conversation with her, because Jews didn't normally talk to Samaritans. Then she was really surprised when He began telling her all that He knew about her, even though they had never met. She perceived that He was a prophet and began talking religion with Him. She said that her ancesters had taught that God was to be worshiped in Samaria, not in Jerusalem. Jesus answered that the geographical location was not the important thing about worship, but that God wants people to worship Him "in spirit and in truth."

The most important verse here is verse 23, where the Lord tells her (and us) that the Father is seeking people who will worship Him "in spirit and truth", without needing a certain physical location in which to worship. In other words "true" worship comes from the heart, and we should be free to worship God wherever we are; in a building or outside of a building; at work or at home; or wherever we are. True worship is a heart-felt response to God's love and care for us, and nothing should be allowed to stop that.

Summary-Put God first in your life, by not letting anything stop you from worshiping Him wherever you are, and watch the Lord bless you in a greater way than ever before.
